LEICESTER MATCHDAY PREVIEW

May 5, 2023 12:00 pm

FULHAM V LEICESTER CITY | MONDAY 8TH MAY 2023 | 3PM | CRAVEN COTTAGE | #FULLEI

The opposition

  • Leicester’s plight has come as a surprise to many this season. Back-to-back wins over Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur at the start of February suggested a change in fortune, but they followed that with just one point from a possible 18 – form which cost Brendan Rodgers his job.
  • Dean Smith has added some solidity to the Foxes since coming in. Although they lost his first game in charge to Manchester City, they’ve been unbeaten since, following up victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers with draws against relegation rivals Leeds United and Everton.
  • At the time of writing, goal difference alone is keeping Leicester out of the bottom three, so a point for Leeds on Saturday – albeit at the Etihad – would see them slip into the drop zone.

Leicester team news

Ricardo Pereira and Jonny Evans are back in training and pushing for a return to the matchday squad, but the fixture comes too soon for Kelechi Iheanacho, and James Justin is a long-term absentee.

Player insight

Bernd Leno has his sights set on at least nine points from the remaining four games of the campaign.

“You could see against City, against Liverpool, we are not preparing for holidays or whatever, we want to give something back to the fans because their support was amazing,” he said.

“Also, there’s still the Club record to beat. We need three wins, which is ambitious but not impossible.”
