Midfielder reflects on Arsenal defeat and looks at things to build on
Josh Brownhill was disappointed with the Clarets result against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday, but was keen to take the positives and stress that there’s belief within the team that positive performances will soon turn into points.
When asked for his thoughts on the game, the midfielder replied: “I think overall there’s a lot of positives to take but at the end of the day it’s a defeat, so everybody’s frustrated but like I say I think there’s a lot of positives in there.”
Resolute defending saw the visitors almost enter the break goalless, it took a first half added time opener from Leandro Trossard to put Arsenal ahead.
“I thought we defended very well to be honest for a lot of the game. To concede just before half time is never ideal. But you know, we managed to get ourselves back into the game, and then again not long after concede, so like I say frustrating.”
It was a tough test that stood ahead for Vincent Kompany’s side, however despite the end result, Brownhill believes there are several positives to take moving forward.
“I thought we looked quite solid. I thought we were still very good on the ball; we created some really good chances – you know not many teams can come here and create the chances that we did. There’s a lot of positives, scoring as well here. There are positives to take.”
The captain also bagged his second goal of the campaign, to draw the Clarets equal in the second half.
“Yes, it was good, it’s always nice to score but to get back level was even sweeter, I just wish it lasted longer before they scored. It’s always nice to score but it’s just the result really that puts a downer on it.”
Burnley now pause for the international break but Brownhill is confident the positives from performances against Crystal Palace and Arsenal can be built on over the next few weeks ahead of the Clarets next game against West Ham United.
“The confidence that we’ll take, even though the results haven’t gone our way, the performances have been really, really good. It was always going to take a little bit getting going, there was still some performances early on in the season, like against Man United, the first half at Luton, Forest and then spells at a few other games. So, like I say there’s still a lot there to take positives from but more so the last two games.
“Now it’s time to rest, come back but we’ve got to start getting the results, that’s the main thing. We can perform well as much as we want but the most important thing is the result and I believe in this team, what we can do and what we can achieve this season – so it won’t be long before we start getting the results we deserve.”
