Clarets host the first round of the Women’s FA Cup against Terriers
Burnley host Huddersfield Town Women in the first round of the Women’s FA Cup on Sunday at the Anchor Ground, Darwen (KO 2pm).
The Claret women remain unbeaten this season, as they come off a 3-1 home victory against West Bromwich Albion last Sunday in the FA Women’s National League.
Leah Embley opened the scoring against the Baggies, as she utilised the wing to get into an open space in the box, firing the ball straight past the keeper.
Clarets captain Alethea Paul found herself on the scoresheet a minute after Embley, as she squeezed the ball in between the far post and the keeper resulting in her finding the back of the net.
Despite Fran Orthodoxou brining a goal back for the visitors, it was Millie Ravening who secured the three points for the home side.
The last time the two sides faced each other was earlier on in the season in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League, where Burnley came out on top with a 5-1 victory away from home at The Stafflex Arena.
The Clarets found the deadlock 30 minutes in as last season’s top goalscorer Millie Ravening poked home the opening goal.
Huddersfield responded almost instantly as Fetruz Abdullahi fired a close range effort past Levell to equalise for the hosts.
Ravening won a free-kick just outside the box, an absolute peach of a curling shot found the top-left corner leaving Conway with no chance.
Coleman-Evans’s fine performance was soon rewarded with a goal as her outrageous looping shot beat the keeper and flew under the bar to make it 3-1 to the Clarets.
Two minutes later, substitute Maria Francis-Jones made it 4-1 as she latched onto a loose ball and confusion at the back for Huddersfield saw the defender win the ball and find the back of the net.
Francis-Jones turned the Huddersfield defence inside-out with a fantastic run and her cross found Lord-Mears who did well to find the bottom corner and round off an impressive away performance from the Clarets.
