Clarets progress into the FA Cup competition
Burnley FC Women hosted Huddersfield Town Women in the first round of the Women’s FA Cup at Darwen’s Anchor Ground on Sunday afternoon, progressing to the next round with a 2-1 win.
Laura Elford opened the scoring for the Clarets in the first two minutes of the game, and it was Kate Mallin who found the equaliser for the Terriers as she looped the ball over Lucy Farrell.
Amaya Coleman-Evans bagged herself the winner which takes the squad into the next round of the Women’s FA Cup.
First Half
Elford opened the scoring two minutes into the game, as Millie Ravening travelled down the pitch and fizzed the ball into the box where Elford was able to take one touch over the keeper into the back of the net.
Lizzy Hamer tried her luck not long after as Rhema Lord-Mears utilised the wing, as she crossed the ball into the box where Hamer was able to take a shot on target, but the ball landed in the hands of Lauren Bracewell.
Mallin found the equaliser for the Terriers soon after as she moved into the box and hammered the ball past Farrell.
Brenna McPartlan nearly had an instant reaction as she found an open space near the far post and took a shot but Bracewell was able to get a reach.
Hamer had another chance at goal as she curled the ball towards the back of the net, but Bracewell did well to reach as she tipped the ball over the crossbar.
Ravening showed her strength as she left Ibbotson behind and attempted to fire the ball into the bottom right corner.
Second Half
McPartlan had the first chance after the break when she fired a volley 30-yards out, however the ball slammed against the crossbar.
Ravening had another chance at goal when Embley crossed the ball towards the far post and she hit the rebound but Bracewell did well to fall onto the ball.
Aimee Kelly pressed the Huddersfield Town defence as she found Coleman-Evans in open space, where she was able to put the ball into the back of the net.
Burnley FC Women will progress into the second round of the competition and updates regarding the game will follow nearer the date.
