This week’s ‘Loan View’ sees us catch up with goalkeeper Sam Waller who is on loan with Hyde United until January
Goalkeeper Sam Waller admits he is using his loan spell with Hyde United to not just play regular first team men’s football every week but to learn from his experienced teammates amongst the Hyde squad.
Waller joined United on loan in September until the new year and the shot-stopper is relishing the experience sharing the dressing room with the likes of former Blackpool & Morecambe striker Jack Redshaw, ex-Huddersfield Town and Bury forward Harry Bunn and former Plymouth & Notts County attacker Lewis Alessandra.
Speaking to Burnleyfootballclub.com in this week’s ‘Loan View’ feature, Waller highlighted the benefits of playing with senior professionals and the ‘boost’ that having supporters behind the team can give.
Waller, who has played every game since joining the Club, said: “It’s great. Playing games week in week out, you really can’t beat it and I’m really enjoying the overall experience of it.
“In the changing room we have ex-players who I like learning from and speaking to. They have Championship, League One and League Two experience.
“Jack Redshaw, Lewis Alessandra, Harry Bunn are all in the team among others and they’re great to talk to and pick up as much as I can from.
“So, there’s a lot of senior professionals in there, who have been there and done it and it’s really beneficial to learn from them not just on the pitch, but off it too.”
The 20-year-old added: “It’s such a different experience for me, obviously in U21s football there’s no fans or anything but with Hyde we get a following and they’re great, they get behind us every game.
“It gives you that extra boost, when they get behind the team when you need a lift and winning football games is for the supporters and that’s what you want to do at the end of the day.”
Waller has been at Turf Moor since the age of 12 and after rising through the academy system over the last eight years including a loan spell with Lancaster City last season, the goalkeeper hopes to carry on furthering his career and playing regular matches.
“I’m really enjoying my time there. I’m training at Burnley in the week some days still but then train with Hyde a couple of times through the week.
“The aim for me is to just keep playing as many games as I can, learning and picking up experience and see where it takes me.”
