Clarets host Alnwick Town in the Women’s FA Cup
Burnley host Alnwick Town Ladies in the second round of the Women’s FA Cup at Clitheroe FC on Sunday afternoon (2pm KO).
The Clarets come off a 2-1 victory against Huddersfield Town in the first round of the Women’s FA Cup.
Laura Elford opened the scoring within two minutes of the first half, then it was Kate Mallin who found the equaliser when she looped the ball over Clarets’ keeper Lucy Farrell.
Amaya Coleman-Evans bagged herself the winner in the 82nd minute, as Aimee Kelly sent the ball towards an open space, where Coleman-Evans was able to take one touch and fired it into the back of the net.
Sunday’s opponents have already made history for themselves by progressing into the second round of the prestigious competition, which they have never done before.
They secured a 2-1 victory away from home against Gateshead FC, with goals coming from Katie Ellwood and Kirsty Armstrong.
Alnwick Town Ladies compete in North East Regional Women’s Football League, where they are currently placed in 7th position. The team has secured two wins, one loss and two draws since the start of the season.
Burnley Women meanwhile, remain top of the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League.
It’s free entry for all supporters at the Ecogiants Stadium, Clitheroe FC on Sunday.
