Rodriguez, Bruun Larsen, Amdouni, Koleosho and Brownhill strikes seal all three points as Burnley hit the Blades for five
A joint-quickest ever goal at Turf Moor from Jay Rodriguez, a cool and calm finish from Jacob Bruun Larsen, a well-taken hit from Zeki Amdouni, a fine strike from Luca Koleosho and a lovely effort from Josh Brownhill saw Burnley secure their first home victory of the season in a well deserved thrashing 5-0 win over Sheffield United at Turf Moor.
Rodriguez opened the scoring in the first minute of the battle of the roses clash with a perfectly planted header before Jacob Bruun Larsen added Burnley’s second with half-an-hour played.
The Clarets added a third of the game through Amdouni’s sweet finish inside the area before Koleosho struck his first Burnley goal in the 75th minute, with Brownhill then rounding the goals off with a perfectly-hit strike.
Manager Vincent Kompany made just the one change from last weekend’s clash with the Hammers, as Bruun Larsen was handed his first league start replacing Johann Berg Gudmundsson.
First Half
The Clarets couldn’t have wished for a better start, with just 22 seconds on the clock Amdouni found Taylor out wide to his left with the full-back whipping a perfect ball into the area for Rodriguez to guide home into the bottom corner past Foderingham.
Burnley were enjoying the majority of the ball in the opening 10 minutes and had another opportunity when Amdouni latched onto a ball over the top and laid off Rodriguez to dink an effort over the crossbar from outside the area.
United forced their first corner of the game midway through the first half when Burnley-born Norwood rifled a strike from range towards goal with Trafford pushing it wide of the post.
Kompany’s men were pushing for a second of the afternoon and got it on the half-hour mark when Bruun Larsen brought down O’Shea’s pass over the United defence, with the Dane breaking forward with only Foderingham to beat and coolly slotting it past the Blades keeper.
The Blades looked for an instant response to the Clarets’ second when Fleck squared to Archer but the young forward could only sky his effort over the target which turned out to be the be the final chance of the half.
United’s afternoon went from bad to worse on the stroke of the break with the Clarets heading into the break two goals to the good, the Blades were reduced to 10 men as McBurnie was shown a second yellow card for an elbow on O’Shea.
Second Half
After a quiet opening to the second half, Koleosho curled the first effort of the second period just wide of the post with a fizzing shot.
With over an hour played, Kompany made his first change of the game when goalscorer Bruun Larsen made way for Gudmundsson.
Heckingbottom’s side’s first real effort of the second half came with 20 minutes left when Hamer threaded a ball in for Osula which Trafford came out to gather with a great save.
The hosts were controlling the game from front to back and grabbed a third of the afternoon when Amdouni latched onto Beyer’s flick on with the Swiss forward firing low into the bottom corner with his first home goal.
