Brighton & Hove Albion
The Albion were in League One 12 years ago and have this season just topped their respective group in the UEFA Europa League alongside a group including Ajax and Marseille.
Brighton were promoted to the Premier League in 2017 and have never looked back. After securing survival in their first couple of season, the Seagulls have since sealed two top 10 finishes with a 6th place finish last season to ensure European football for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
De Zerbi took charge of the Albion in September last year following Graham Potter’s departure and the Italian boss has enjoyed plenty of success at the Amex since taking over.
Ahead of the 2023/24 campaign with Europa League football on the horizon, Brighton bolstered their squad with a mixture of experienced and youngsters. James Milner joined from Liverpool and Mahmoud Dahoud from Borussia Dortmund whilst Ansu Fati arrived on loan from Barcelona. Joao Pedro joined from Watford, 19-year-old Carlos Baleb arrived from Lille, central-defender Igor from Fiorentina and goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, who played under Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht, signed from the Belgian side.
The Seagulls did lose a handful of key figures across the summer amongst all the arrivals. Midfielder Moises Caicedo left for a world-record fee to Chelsea alongside goalkeeper Roberto Sanchez whilst World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister signed for Liverpool.
Form Guide
The Clarets head into the weekend off the back of a 1-0 defeat on Tuesday night at Wolves after an impressive 5-0 thrashing over Sheffield United last weekend at Turf Moor.
Burnley will be looking to secure a second away three points of the season which could see them climb out of the relegation zone, after a win at Luton Town in October saw Kompany’s side seal a first victory of the campaign.
Brighton meanwhile are unbeaten at home in their last four matches in all competitions and come into this clash after a 2-1 win over Brentford on Wednesday night.
The Albion, who currently sit 8th in the league table, have scored in every league fixture this year but have also conceded in every match.
What Vincent Kompany said
“In the moment [you are frustrated], but you have to learn to manage this in this job and always turn it into something productive.
“My way to deal with these things is to get up the next morning and go again. It’s an important mindset.
“You always have a small debrief after the game, usually in the dressing room for a couple of minutes, sometimes there is a lot to say, sometimes not a lot.
“The next day, we have another game coming this Saturday so it’s always leading into that game.
“The way to judge a performance objectively is best after you’ve done your reviews. You analyse every phase back and at the start of the season, there were so many correction moments, so many working points and things we really needed to sort on the training ground.
“But in our review of our last games, on many occasions it is a good blueprint and a good template to show we are starting to do well at this level.”
