Midfielder looks ahead to Saturday’s clash with the Toffees
Josh Brownhill says recent impressive performances has ignited a ‘buzz’ heading into this weekend’s meeting with Everton at Turf Moor.
The Clarets have picked up four points in the previous three fixtures with a 5-0 thrashing over Sheffield United and a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
Speaking ahead of this Saturday’s clash with the Toffees, Brownhill spoke about the mood amongst the camp going into the game and discussed the recent performances and results.
The 27-year-old said: “I feel like there is a buzz coming back. After the win against Sheffield United then the point at Brighton, you can sort of feel that buzz coming back around the place going into the game.
“Rather than going in heads down and out after a few defeats, we’re going in after some good performances and points on the board.
“I think that’s what had killed us a bit at the start going 1-0 down and the heads going down at the beginning of the season and I think it’s completely different now.”
Reflecting on recent results, Brownhill believes it was ‘an important point’ at Brighton and is another confidence boost for the side.
“Obviously it could be a very important point for us, but I think more so at this point, probably for our confidence, it’s probably done that a world of good.
“We’ve been in games on top and come out with nothing, you know against West Ham leading to the 86th minute, come away from the game with, with no points.
“Against Palace, we played really well and got beat 2-0, but where as this one was, we played really well. First half, second half, we defended very well.
“Pretty much did everything we could do to to get a result there. Because you are how hard it is when you go there to Brighton.
“To concede was devastating still but I think the way we defended towards the end of the game, the point was massive for us.”
Prior to beating the Blades and the point at Brighton, Burnley had put in some impressive performances against Crystal Palace, Arsenal and West Ham United despite not coming away with any points.
Brownhill praised the side for improving in recent games and explained what he thought had improved performances: “I think what’s working is the chances that we’re creating, being really good on the ball, second balls and running.
“We look at the stats after and we pretty much outrun majority of teams in this vision, if not every single one when we play.
“I think we’ve cut out probably just a couple of mistakes which is obviously the some can lead to mistake costing a goal but probably a couple of silly ones and I think we’ve had a little bit of unluckiness with a few worldie goals that have gone in the top corner.”
Saturday sees former Clarets boss Sean Dyche return to Turf Moor for the first time since departing in 2022 and Brownhill says it will be strange to see the ex-Burnley boss ‘on the other side’.
“It’ll be strange to see him back at Turf on the other side but you know, he’s, he’s been a massive part of Burnley’s journey to where they are today.
“He got Burnley into Europe, Europa League football, which was massive. I feel like the fans really appreciate him as well. It’ll be strange to have him back here, but I’m sure the fans are going to give a good reception.”
