Clarets kick off 2024 with FA cup tie with Spurs
Burnley begin their Emirates FA Cup campaign on Friday night (8pm) live on ITV1 as Vincent Kompany’s side travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Clarets will be aiming to go one better than last season’s cup success to reach Wembley, as Burnley reached the quarter-finals of the competition after beating Ipswich Town and Fleetwood Town.
It will be the first time Burnley face Spurs in the FA Cup since 2015, when a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor in the third round forced a replay at White Hart Lane which the hosts went on to win.
Kompany’s men will be backed by another strong following in London as the Clarets kick off their 2024.

Tottenham Hotspur
Ange Postecoglu’s side have enjoyed a fairly successful first half of the 2023/24 campaign, sitting fifth in the Premier League table and just six points off top spot.
Despite Harry Kane’s departure in the summer, Spurs have adjusted to their respective ‘transition’ period just fine. Heung Min Son leads the goal scoring charts with 12 goals, Richarlison on six and summer signing James Maddison hitting three & claiming five assists despite missing the last two months with injury.
Spurs boast a strong home record at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with just three losses in the Premier League and securing seven wins which include Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United.
Eight-time FA Cup winners Tottenham will be looking to get past the fifth round of the competition for the first time since 2018, where Mauricio Pochettino’s side reached the semi-finals.
Form Guide
The Clarets take on Spurs after falling to a narrow defeat last time out at Villa Park, as the Clarets came from behind twice to equaliser against Villa before an 89th minute penalty ensured defeat for the visitors.
Prior to the trip to the Midlands, Burnley won their previous trip on the road where goals from Wilson Odobert and Sander Berge sealed a 2-0 win over Fulham.
Spurs head into the cup tie after winning four of their previous five Premier League games with three of those coming at home.
A 3-1 win against Bournemouth last time out came after a 4-2 defeat at Brighton. Postecoglu’s men had won their previous three games prior to that loss at the Amex and finished the first half of the season with 42 goals.
What Vincent Kompany said
“To be brutally honest, it’s the best possible draw for us. These are the types of moments you want in a cup game.
“We have an opportunity against one of the best teams in England from the best league in the world and it’s the right draw at the right time for us.
“It’s better to have the outcome of these type of games earlier and hope for a positive cup run. If we don’t win, we move on and carry on in the league, if we win then you hope we would get another draw we could look forward to.
“I’m not saying it’s an easy draw for us or anything like that, we just have to treat it as an important game for us to continue measuring ourselves and working hard.”
