Alan’s notes ahead of tonight’s game
Good evening, welcome back to Turf Moor for tonight’s game against Luton Town.
We’re here earlier than originally planned due to Luton’s Emirates FA Cup replay but we’re all set and ready to go for Friday night football under the lights.
Our own cup journey came to an end at Tottenham Hotspur last week and whilst we are naturally disappointed not to progress further in the competition, I was pleased with so many aspects of our performance.
I do believe that each game we are seeing improvement in the squad, and we have been unlucky not to come away with three points in some of our recent fixtures.
It’s important to take these positives and build on them heading into games such as tonight, against fellow promoted side Luton Town.
This evening’s fixture marks our annual In Memoriam matchday, a date in our calendar where we commemorate the loss of members of the Clarets family who passed away over the course of the year.
The names we have received will be displayed on the big screen ahead of kick-off and we invite you all to join us in a round of applause as a moment of reflection.
On behalf of myself and everybody connected to Burnley Football Club, we pass on our sincere condolences to all supporters who have experienced a loss this past year.
Sunday afternoon is a big occasion for our women’s team who have been busy preparing for their Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie with Birmingham City Women.
The game will offer us a great opportunity to test ourselves against Women’s Championship opposition and should be a brilliant advert for women’s football.
Kick-off is at 2pm on Sunday, at the Lancashire FA County Ground, Leyland. All support is very much welcome and will mean a lot to Rebecca and the team.
Staying on the theme of women’s football, we were delighted to welcome Kelly Smith MBE, Nikita Parris and The FA’s Kelsey Byrne to our training ground recently, in support of The FA’s International Player to Coach Scheme.
I remain committed to ensuring our Club offers a positive environment to develop coaches of the future and it was great to be able to meet Kelly, Nikita and Kelsey, to aid their learning and development.
Finally, as we edge closer to kick-off, my message to you all is – we’re going to need you, Clarets. Remember, we can all play our part.
As always, I hope you enjoy the game.
UTC!
Alan
