Clarets take on the Hatters live on TNT Sports at Turf Moor

Vincent Kompany’s side return to Premier League action on Friday night as the Clarets host Luton Town at Turf Moor.

Luton Town

Luton have had an impressive rise to the Premier League from playing in the Conference Premier League just 10 years ago.

After reaching League Two in 2014, It took the Hatters just four years to then secure promotion into League one, where an instant promotion saw Luton reach the Championship at the first time of asking after finishing 1st in the 2018/19 campaign.

Following three years in the Championship, Town then sealed a 3rd place finish last season under Rob Edwards and were promoted to the Premier League at Wembley via the playoffs with a penalty shootout victory against Coventry City.

Although the Hatters currently sit in the bottom three alongside the Clarets & Sheffield United, Luton have given their supporters some days to remember already in the top-flight with wins over Everton and Newcastle United.

Form Guide

Performances have improved vastly over recent weeks for Kompany’s side and the Clarets come into Friday’s clash following a spirited display at Spurs last Friday despite falling to defeat and exiting the FA Cup.

A strong performance at Villa Park in a 3-2 loss last time out in the Premier League came after a Boxing Day defeat to Liverpool at Turf Moor.

Meanwhile, the Hatters are winless in their last two games in all competitions but picked up back-to-back Premier League wins over Newcastle United and Sheffield United prior to that.

Luton have won twice on the road this season with wins at Goodison Park and Bramall Lane which sees Edwards’ side sit 18th and a point off Everton in 17th.

What Vincent Kompany said

“I think we’re past the point where we can’t deny the fact that we have to say every game is an opportunity to get a result.

“Our belief remains the same and that’s to get a result against Luton. It was the same against Villa, Liverpool and the other games, it’s down to us to make it happen.

“I think both teams will be feeling confident in terms of how recent performances have gone for both of us and you can see the improvements made.

“The biggest similarities are that we can say at the very start of the campaign the gap between us and most of the teams we were facing.

“For our last 12 games or so, you can now see that there hasn’t been that real gap in games and we’re competing more. Same goes for Luton, I can’t remember watching a game where they haven’t made a proper game of it.”
