January 31, 2024 5:28 pm

Clarets head to Etihad for midweek trip as Premier League returns

Burnley return to action on Wednesday night (7:30pm) as the Clarets travel to Manchester City in the Premier League live on TNT Sports.

The Clarets take on City for what will be their first game in 19 days following the January winter break followed by the recent FA Cup weekend.

After departing the Citizens in 2019, Boss Vincent Kompany returned to the Etihad for the first time last season in the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final tie with Pep Guardiola’s side but this week will be the first time the Belgian heads back to his former club in a league fixture.

Burnley will be supported by another sell-out crowd in Manchester with tickets unavailable to purchase for the game.

Where to watch?

All tickets for Wednesday’s trip to the Etihad are sold out and unavailable to purchase online or at the ticket office.

The game will not be streamed on Clarets+ due to Premier League rules and regulations but will be shown live on TNT Sports from 7pm.

Live audio commentary is available for the game on Clarets+ from 7:15pm with Phil Bird.

Full match highlights, goals and interviews will be available to view after the match on Clarets+ and across all social media channels.

Manchester City

City concluded a record-breaking 2023 last month by winning the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia, after lifting the ‘treble’ last season which consisted of the Premier League, Emirates FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.

Guardiola’s side could replicate last season’s success once again this campaign as City find themselves in 2nd position in the Premier League table, in the FA Cup fifth round and competing in the Champions League last 16.

Although the Blues sit one place and five points behind Liverpool, City have a game in hand over Jurgen Klopp’s men and still have the test of a trip to Anfield to come in March.

Form guide

The Clarets drew with Luton Town at Turf Moor in their last outing which was 19 days ago before the winter break and FA Cup weekend.

The Manchester side are in scintillating form, winning their last seven matches in all competitions and are unbeaten at home all season.

Guardiola’s side defeated Newcastle United last time out in the Premier League at St James’ Park before seeing off Spurs 1-0 in the FA Cup last weekend.

What Vincent Kompany said

“Look, it’s always going to be a special occasion for me, but my main focus is on my job and that’s us getting a result there.

“My job takes too much focus on my days on how to get results and performances for Burnley, than to look at this game any differently.

“We know what they (Manchester City) are capable of but for us it’s a game where we can see what we can do against the best team in the world.

“Winning doesn’t happen at the first attempt or second attempt but it can come eventually and it’s about keeping that consistency and going about our usual business.

“They’re a very good team and we all know that. We just have to go there, compete and show the best version of ourselves on the night.”
