French right-back joins on loan until the end of the season

Burnley Football Club are pleased to confirm the arrival of defender Lorenz Assignon on loan until the end of the season from Rennes.

The 23-year-old right-back progressed through Rennes’ academy system after joining in 2015 and has gone on to play 60 times for the Ligue 1 side.

After arriving at Turf Moor, Assignon said: “I’m really happy, it’s been a long day and it’s been a day of hard decisions but I’m very pleased to be here.

“I had a number of clubs to choose from but I spoke to the manager and straight away knew that I wanted to be here.

“I’m ready to go. It’s the best league in the world and I’m really excited to be a part of it.”

Born in Grasse, Assignon joined Rennes’ academy as a youngster and initially spent time with ‘Rennes B’ before a loan spell with French side Bastia, which saw the defender win the third division title.

The full-back returned to Rennes and became a first team regular in the France top-flight side before joining the Clarets this window.
