KOMPANY DISCUSSES ‘DESIRE TO WIN’ AHEAD OF PALACE TRIP

Clarets boss looks ahead to Saturday’s trip to Palace

The Clarets take on the Eagles at Selhurst Park this weekend, where Burnley remain unbeaten in their last three trips and manager Vincent Kompany is hoping ‘the desire to win’ can be the start of getting a run of results together for his side.

Before the March international break arrives, Kompany’s side face Bournemouth, West Ham and Brentford after this weekend but the Clarets boss insists his side can’t have any ‘pretention or arrogance’ ahead of the next four fixtures.

Speaking to the media on Thursday ahead of the London trip, Kompany explained: “Every game is must win for us, no matter what. It’s a must get a run of results together now.

“We go to Palace this week, they’re a good team with some good players but there is always that desire to win games and that’s the same for us again this weekend.

“Any team is capable of punishing you in this league and there can’t be any different thoughts in our mindset going into this game. Of course the top teams are ruthless but every team can be dangerous on their day.

“I’ve got that fire in my belly every single day to deliver that same desire to win and we have to use that now going into these games. We come in every day to work hard and get results and it’s about turning those performances we have shown into results.”

Kompany added: “We played Palace 16 games ago and in those 16 games, I think 12 of those have been performances we can take positives from and build on.

“We can’t let last weekend define us. You never park it fully, but you have to use it in your favour and that answer is on the pitch and not in the press conference.”

Palace recently announced Roy Hodgson’s departure from the club with former Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg boss Oliver Glasner appointed as the new Eagles boss.

Kompany admits it doesn’t affect his team’s preparation too much leading into the game, but says Glasner is ‘a coach with a lot of clarity in what he does’.

“It’s a new manager coming in, but you still have to watch the last six/seven games and build a game plan from what sort of opposition you are coming up against.

“The analysis side we have done and he’s (Glasner) a coach with a lot of clarity in what he does with an intense side to the game.

“Every weekend you come up against great managers and great players and it’s someone new trying to bring something to the league.”

Midfielder Aaron Ramsey was forced off in last weekend’s clash with Arsenal following a coming together with Martin Odegaard and the results show it’s unfortunately ruled the youngster out for a while.

“Unfortunate for us, as it’s as bad as we thought and it’s season over. A big blow for him and for us, but we will support him the best we can at the Club.

“He will recover fully and be an important player in the future for us.”
