Clarets boss reflects on point against Wanderers
Manager Vincent Kompany had plenty of praise for his side following Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Wolves at Turf Moor and says his side must ‘take the point and go again’ after the Clarets extended their unbeaten run to four consecutive games.
Jacob Bruun Larsen put Burnley ahead in the first half before a Rayan Ait-Nouri goal on the stroke of half time drew the visitors level after a dominant display from the home side.
Speaking post-match at Turf Moor, Kompany admits he was pleased with his team’s display against Gary O’Neil’s men and highlighted certain factors that the Clarets boss was impressed with.
“I was pleased with the performance. We will take the point and go again. I thought we were on the front foot, aggressive in the right areas and created lots of good chances.
“Credit to Wolves, I thought they defended their box really well and made it difficult. They had bodies on the line when they needed to but we still managed to create opportunities and look dangerous
“I think it was just one of them days (in front of goal), but I thought we looked like a Premier League team out there tonight. Ok, it hasn’t got us any further up the table but we have a point and we move onto the next game.
“We are where we belong, but I’m fairly confident that it’s a team of improvement & the team can get better. I think you could see that tonight.”
With seven games of the 2023/24 campaign now remaining, Kompany said: “We haven’t earnt the right to remain in the Premier League yet and we just need to keep fighting for it.
“All we need and I mentioned it the other day, is just that opportunity to have a fighting chance. It’s not surprising where we are but it’s just about the next game now for us.
“But what I can guarantee you is that until the very last moment of the season, we won’t stop fighting.”
Tuesday night saw David Datro Fofana and Lyle Foster line-up alongside each other in attack for the first time since the Ivorian’s arrival in January and Kompany explained his thoughts behind the duo pairing up.
“It just gave us a bit more running power up top. We have some really good players on the ball and also some really good runners in attack. Jacob has also given us that too.
“When you don’t have the all your players fit and there’s loads missing, you don’t have the tool to do it but Jay has also been another that has been great when coming on and making an impact for us.”
