Clarets boss looks ahead to Goodison Park visit

Manager Vincent Kompany insists himself and the team are focussing on one game at a time as the Clarets head into the final seven games of the Premier League campaign.

Burnley travel to Everton this weekend to take on Sean Dyche’s side and Kompany acknowledged the importance of claiming all three points against the Toffees and highlighted the importance to not look too far ahead.

Speaking to the media on Thursday afternoon, Kompany praised his side’s recent performances after sparking a four-match unbeaten run, but calls for ‘more’ from his team ahead of Saturday’s clash.

The Clarets chief said: “Look, they are getting something for their efforts which is good, but we need more now. I wouldn’t quite call it a ‘run’ that we have been on, but it’s just all about the next game now and taking it one game at a time.

“Each week the next game is very important and this week it’s all about this Saturday. I try not speculate on the outcome, winning gives us a better perspective than losing, I know that.

“But we are at the stage now where we have got everything to fight for. There’s seven games left with everything to play for, we just have to try and win as many games as we can and I know the team will do that anyway, it’s always been in us.”

On the game, Kompany added: “Every Premier League game is tough, there are no easy games. We just have to prepare to the best we can and be aware of their strengths and and seize the opportunities we get.

“We play it like any other Premier League game, there is only so much we can control. We just need to be ready on the day to take on the fight and we have a team that is willing to do that.

“Playing at Goodison Park, a big atmosphere, these are the type of games that you want to play and that the team will be well up for, I’m sure of.”

Saturday will be the Clarets’ third game in seven days but Kompany admits despite the busy period, there are no fresh injury concerns for the visitors ahead of the trip to Merseyside.

“First we have to make sure we asses everyone after two games in quick succession and whoever is ready and fit to play, will. But I believe everyone has come through fine and ready to go on Saturday.”
