French forward previews Saturday’s visit to Everton
Wilson Odobert is well aware of the importance of taking all three points from Everton on Saturday and says the Clarets can take the positives from going four games unbeaten to Merseyside but knows the Toffees will pose a strong test for the visitors.
The Clarets take on Sean Dyche’s side at Goodison Park this weekend after extending their unbeaten run to four matches on Tuesday night following a 1-1 draw against Wolves which saw Burnley secure six points from the last four fixtures.
Speaking ahead of the clash, which sees the hosts sit seven points above Vincent Kompany’s side, Odobert said: “For sure we want to win every weekend, of course. We know the game against Everton will have a sort of special feeling to it as these sort of games against teams around you always do. It’s a game that we need to take something from.
“It’s an important game for us and we have to do everything we can to win it, just like we do every single week. But if it turns out not to be the case, we also won’t be letting our heads drop and will still believe in the cause.
“It will be a difficult challenge. They have a very direct style and have lots of strengths but we know that every opponent we face have lots of quality. We are just working hard to concentrate on ourselves and how we can create problems for them.
“Being unbeaten in a few games is something positive we can take with us into the game, but we know we have to do a little bit more and take more points where we can. The confidence has grown amongst the group and I think you can see that in the way we are playing, hopefully we can continue that on Saturday.”
The France U21 international added: “I think we have always believed in ourselves to be honest and we have remained a really solid group throughout. I think you can see out there on the pitch that we all fight and battle for each other in every game.
“We’re all well aware of the situation we are in but we’re also aware that the teams just above us outside the bottom three are still within reach of us with seven games left to play, it’s just about us fighting until the end.
“It’s the same with recent results, we are on a positive run and it motivates us to go even more and go all out. We’re creating lots of opportunities and making lots of chances, it’s just down to us now to start taking them.”
The 19-year-old who joined from Ligue 1 side Troyes last summer has played 26 times in the Premier League this season for the Clarets and the teenager admits it’s an ‘honour’ for him to play in the top-flight of English football and explained what he has learnt so far.
“It’s been a really good experience for me this season, on and off the pitch. At first I wasn’t playing so much which can be hard sometimes, but after that once I was involved more it became easier for me.
“I’ve also noticed in this league you can never let up or stop trying for a single moment because everyone can beat everyone and any opponent is capable of mounting a comeback.
“It really is a tough league to play in and it’s packed with great players. I feel really honoured to be part of this league because it’s the best in the world.”
