French full-back reflects on Blades performance

Lorenz Assignon was left feeling pleased following his impressive display in the 4-1 win over Sheffield United and described it as a ‘big feeling’ but insists the Clarets must not get carried away and continue the hard work for the final four games.

The 23-year-old right-back scored Burnley’s second goal of the afternoon at Bramall Lane and then set up the visitors’ third of the game after picking out Lyle Foster inside the area who coolly slotted home past Ivo Grbic.

Speaking post-match in Sheffield, the defender said: “It’s a big feeing for us, I’m really happy. We worked really hard as a team, and it was an important game for us, so we’re very pleased.

“I thought we played with no fear and went there with a plan and it paid off. Yes, there is natural pressure around the game but you need to use it to your advantage and I think we did that.

“The work from the team in the last few games has been really good and it has paid off for us by getting more points and playing well.

“The belief for us doesn’t stop, we keep smiling, staying positive and continue working hard to get the results and points that we need.”

The Clarets head take on Manchester United this weekend, where Vincent Kompany’s side will be looking to continue the impressive run of form which has seen Burnley lose just once in the last seven Premier League matches.

Burnley have picked up results in recent years at Old Trafford and when asked if the Clarets can carry the momentum into the weekend at United, Assignon says ‘why not?’

“Why not? Manchester United have had a big game over the weekend (FA Cup semi-final) and have another game on Wednesday before this weekend.

“We just need to go there , play our game and continue the momentum. We are only focussed on the next game in front of us and that is Manchester United.”
