Clarets win Lancashire FA Senior Cup
Burnley retained their Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup title with an emphatic 9-1 victory over West Didsbury & Chorlton on Wednesday evening.
The Clarets scored four goals in an action-packed first half and continued their momentum after the interval, including a hat-trick from substitute Laura Elford.
Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk made six changes to the team that started against Liverpool Feds at Turf Moor, with Danielle Deehan coming into the defence and wearing the captain’s armband.
Lucy Farrell was given the opportunity to keep goal with Leah Embley, Ginny Lackey, Tilly Wilkes and Dom Cooper all also coming in.
West Didsbury took a 5th-minute lead at the County Ground in Leyland through Becca Simpson, who picked out the bottom right corner from the edge of the area.
Burnley dominated possession and territory for the rest of the first half and eventually equalised through Amaya, who headed in a Rhema Lord-Mears corner.

The goals then started to flow with Georgia Marshall heading in a second and Brenna McPartlan reacting quickest to finish from close range.
Cooper added a fourth before the break, scoring directly from a corner.
Sawiuk introduced forwards Aimee Kelly and Elford shortly before the hour and the latter made an immediate impact, scoring twice in five minutes to make it 6-1.
It was seven when Ginny Lackey slid in to meet a perfectly weighted Wilkes cross and Elford produced a fine piece of skill to set up her third and Burnley’s eighth 11 minutes from time.
The scoring wasn’t done there, however, as McPartlan added her second as the game entered added time.
It’s the second year in a row that Burnley have scored nine goals in the final of this competition and the Clarets will finish their season at Turf Moor against Derby County on Sunday 5th May.
