MATCH PREVIEW: BURNLEY V NEWCASTLE UNITED

May 4, 2024 9:00 am

Clarets entertain the Magpies in penultimate home game

The Clarets host Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon (3pm) hoping to continue the momentum from the recent run of results, which has seen Vincent Kompany’s men lose just once in their last eight Premier League games.

Burnley claimed a precious point at Old Trafford last weekend through Zeki Amdouni’s late equaliser which saw the Clarets secure their 11th point from those last eight fixtures with two wins, five draws and just one defeat.

Kompany’s side are also currently on a three match-unbeaten run at Turf Moor with a win against Brentford and draws against Wolves and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Form guide

The Clarets host the Magpies in strong form having lost just once in their last eight Premier League fixtures as Burnley claimed a point at Old Trafford last weekend.

Zeki Amdouni’s late penalty in Manchester saw the visitors take a deserved point from Old Trafford and close the gap to just two points from climbing out of the bottom three.

United head to Lancashire off the back of a 2-0 defeat in their last away trip at Crystal Palace, but that is Eddie Howe side’s only loss in their last seven fixtures.

The Magpies sit 7th in the Premier League table, just a point off Manchester United in 6th, leaving them with plenty still to fight for in their final four games of the season.

What Vincent Kompany said

“It’s so rare in life that you get opportunities to have a significant moment like this, but these guys will have the opportunity in the next three games.

“It’s as big an opportunity as you get. Getting to the wire and having something to play for, that’s one of the most powerful things you can do in this game.

“Every season I feel needs to matter and you can make it matter by doing something special in the next three games. I want every player in the team to believe, individually, they can have a moment.

“There are three 90 minutes to play and every minute offers an opportunity to have a moment to remain in the Club’s history.

“It starts with that belief yourself that this could be your moment. We need that to be spread across the group because we’ve got three games to cover.”
